Computer aided drafting schools train you to work with the latest drafting software tools, such as AutoCAD. Your computer drafting classes will include how to work with conventional drafting tools such as a drafting board, pencils, rulers, compasses, protractors, triangles, and more. A computer aided drafting education help you become familiar with the terminology of the are of the profession, such as various types of technology, building or housing architecture, industrial products or more, so training must include developing an appropriate understanding of the terminology.

AutoCAD drafting school graduates work in a number of different industries - any industry requiring mechanical or electrical design of any kind. Their drawings must detail all aspects of the products or items, sufficient to allow others to understand what components are required to build it, and what the steps are needed to build it. Types of drafting jobs include: architectural drafting, civil drafting, electrical drafting, electronic drafting, mechanical drafting, and more. Drafting professionals can obtain certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA), but this is not a requirement for employment. However, certification can be and advantage in obtaining employment.
