Pittsburgh Technical Institute has been creating a strong educational reputation over the last 50 years. It was the first two-year career school in Western Pennsylvania to receive regional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. PTI's programs meet workplace demands and evolve when new technologies change industry standards. Pittsburgh Technical Institute offers programs in technical, business, design, computer, certification, and medical fields, and the programs are designed for the busy adult learner who is seeking an associate degree through shorter, evening programs. Some courses are even available in a combination of on-site and online formats.
Almost all PTI students obtain work in their chosen fields, and some land full-time positions after graduation. Some even get jobs before they graduate. This is partly due to PTI's high quality programs, but also due to the Graduate Services Department that employs full-time individuals who are committed to helping students and graduates obtain the right employment.
At Pittsburgh Technical Institute, graduates get unlimited placement assistance, and joining the Alumni Association is free. PTI offers refresher courses to all alumni, publishes an annual alumni newsletter, and the Graduate Services Department has instructors on staff to teach career development courses. All this means that PTI graduates are able to find local, regional, and national jobs.
Most PTI instructors work full-time as faculty and have a high level of industry experience, and the Institute's Center for Teaching and learning offers professional development classes to help instructors teach and communicate more effectively. PTI hosts eight advisory boards made up of 143 professionals who guide the ever-evolving curriculum. All Associate Degree graduates complete an industry internship that is related to their field of study, and PTI students build the computers that the Institute uses for instruction and administration. Pittsburgh Technical Institute's Library Resources Center offers a variety of onoine databases that can be accessed on or off site, as well as books, magazines, videos, and periodicals for student use.
Pittsburgh Technical Institute's North Fayette Campus is located between downtown Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh International Airport in a friendly, quiet neighborhood. The 180-acre campus is surrounded by rolling fields, working farms, and local businesses. While it is rural enough to spot the occasional deer or turkey, the area provides access to shopping, movies, sporting events, as well as the attractions of suburban and city living. Pittsburgh Technical Institute offers several housing options, including apartment-style living in surrounding communities and school-sponsored housing units. Private housing is usually best for non-traditional students or independent students.
