National American University (NAU) was founded in 1941. It is a college of over 4,000 students across 12 campuses. NAU has two campuses in Colorado, one campus in Kansas, three campuses in Minnesota, two campuses in Missouri, two campuses in New Mexico, and three campuses in South Dakota.

In total, NAU offers over 30 programs of study. Programs of study may be completed full or part-time.

National American University also offers many of its degree programs online through National American University Online. These programs are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from anywhere. Students can attend college at a time and place of their choosing.

NAU has a Program Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education for eligible students to receive Pell Grants and other federal aid (e.g., Direct Loans).

National American University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, NAU programs are separately accredited or approved by national educational and professional associations, such as the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA); the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs on the recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (AAMAE); the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education Programs in Athletic Training (JRC-AT); the American Bar Association; the Integrative Massage and Somatic Therapies Accreditation Council (IMSTAC), a division of Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals; and the Iowa Department of Public Health's Iowa State Massage Board. National American University, through the business division, has been granted accreditation by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.
