Johnson & Wales University was founded as a business school in 1914 in Providence, Rhode Island. Johnson & Wales also has campuses in Charlotte, North Carolina, Denver, Colorado, Norfolk, Virginia, and North Miami, Florida. Through its six campuses, Johnson & Wales serves over 16,000 students.
The mission of Johnson & Wales University is to empower its diverse student body to succeed in today's dynamic world by integrating general education, professional skills, and career-focused education. Johnson & Wales University consists of the following six colleges and schools: the College of Business, the College of Culinary Arts, the Hospitality College, the School of Technology, the School of Education, and the School of Arts and Sciences. Combined, these colleges and schools offer 58 undergraduate degree programs leading to associate or bachelor degrees, and 11 graduate degree programs leading to master or doctoral degrees.
The Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts offers a culinary career education with a full university experience that is one of the most respected culinary arts programs in the world. The Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts boasts the International Baking and Pastry Institute, the first of its kind in the world; and a unique culinary nutrition program, the first of its kind to receive accreditation by the American Dietetic Association
The Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts offers two associate degree programs in baking and pastry arts and culinary arts that can be completed in as little as 19 months. Also offered are six bachelor degree programs in baking and pastry arts, culinary arts, culinary nutrition, food marketing, food service entrepreneurship, and food service management that can be completed in as little as 19 months beyond the associate degree.
At the Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts, students get hands-on, real-world experience in a professional, real-life production environment. Each campus has specialized, state-of-the-art labs designed for course-specific skills. Facilities include hot and cold kitchens; pantries and bake shops; specific beverage, bread, chocolate and baking formula technology labs; and even dedicated microbiology and product development labs.
In addition, the Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts also offers "Chef’s Choice" where professional chef-instructors from the College of Culinary Arts combine demonstration and hands-on experience to offer interactive and recreational courses for busy people who are interested in expanding their culinary skills.
