The Court Reporting Institute (CRI) was founded in 1978. It is a school with two locations in Dallas, and Houston Texas. Combined, the two campuses serve over 1,000 students. Dallas is the third largest city in Texas, and the ninth largest city in the nation. Houston is the largest city in Texas, and the fourth largest city in the nation. As with any major metropolitan area, both Dallas and Houston are centers of art, communication, culture, design, industry, fine dining, history, nightlife, and professional sports.

The Court Reporting Institute is part of Vatterott Education Centers, Inc. Vatterott Education Centers, Inc. operates over 18 colleges in the United States and presently offers programs from the diploma level to the bachelor's degree level.

The Court Reporting Institute is currently the largest court reporting school in Texas. In 1983, CRI became the first private court reporting school in Texas authorized to award an Associate of Applied Science Degree in court reporting, and since 1984, CRI's court reporting program has been approved by the National Court Reporters Association.
