The Akron Institute was founded in 1970. It is school of over 200 students located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Cuyahoga Falls is a 10 minute drive north of Akron, Ohio, and a 40 minute drive south of Cleveland.

The Akron Institute is part of the Herzing Educational System, an international organization operating twelve campuses in the United States and Canada.

The Akron Institute's goal is to quickly help graduates to begin new, rewarding, and challenging careers in the fields of allied health, information technology, and administration.

Akron Institute programs focus on providing students with marketable skills that will help them attain their career objectives. Their programs are designed to ensure that the skills and knowledge that students learn parallel those in demand in the workplace. The Akron Institute offers diploma and associate degree programs in eight areas of study, including:

Externships are also an integral part of every program at the Akron Institute, allowing students an opportunity to obtain valuable real-world experience. Admissions at the Akron Institute is a simple process. Akron Institute is open to all high school graduates and individuals that have successfully completed their GED (General Educational Development) tests. Prospective students must tour the school prior to enrollment and be interviewed by an admissions representative. Applicants are also requested to pay an enrollment fee of $25.00 to complete the admissions process.

For students who may require financial assistance to pay for their education at the Akron Institute, there are many alternatives available. Financing options available to qualifying Akron students include:

The Akron Institute's Financial Aid Office is available to answer student's financial aid questions. The Akron Institute has a Program Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education for eligible students to receive Pell Grants and other federal aid (e.g., Direct Loans).

Akron Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). The United States Department of Education recognizes ACCSCT as a national accrediting agency. Akron's medical assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for Medical Assistant Education. In addition, programs are designed to meet the certification standards established by recognized industry leaders, such as: the American Association of Medical Assistants, and the Ohio Dental Association. Akron is also an Authorized VUE Testing Center.
