Forensic nurses must learn a variety of techniques for gathering evidence in a secure manner without contaminating it. They also must learn a wide range of tests that they can perform on the evidence, and how to draw conclusions from the available information. They must also be able to put together evidence that may be used in a court of law. Some forensic nurses obtain employment working in the penal system, or in other roles teaching people about the effects of violent crime, and how to avoid it.
