Pharmacy Technician Careers

During your pharmacy technician training you will receive classroom and lab exposure to pharmaceutical terminology, pharmacy calculations, pharmacy record keeping, pharmaceutical techniques, and pharmacy law and ethics. Pharmacy technicians also receive training in medication names, uses, and doses.

Pharmacy technicians helped licensed pharmacists provide medication and other pharmacy products to patients, including assistance in the preparation of the medication. Pharmacy technicians work closely with pharmacy aides who handle more routine pharmacy tasks, such as answering pharmacy telephones, and general pharmacy and medical office administration. While historically most pharmacy technicians received on the job training, a clear trend has developed where employers prefer pharmacy technicians that have received formal training and certification. According the UD department of Labor, job prospects for pharmacy technicians is expected to be excellent for those with formal training and certification.
