Online Logistics Training

Can you name a career equally necessary to the U.S. Marine Corps, cat food companies, and bookstores? If you said logistics, you're right. Logistics, or supply chain management, is equally in demand in the military and in the private sector. People and product need to be moved from point A to point B, at the right time, to the right place, and at the right price. Logistics engineers coordinate that movement.

Logistics Training Schools: What to Expect

If you enroll in a logistics training degree program, you may not only take classes through business departments in logistics training courses, but may also learn through hands-on work. Your courses may include:

  • Supply chain management
  • Operations management
  • Logistics modeling method

You'll probably also complete an internship, gaining hands-on knowledge.

Most employers would prefer a college degree, and many manufacturing companies want a bachelor's or master's degree. Online schools in logistics training often offer flexibility, taking classes on campus or from home.

Not all logistics training is the same. Some career tracks may include supply chain management and others involve trucking and warehousing. All fall under the logistics umbrella.

Career Options for Logistics Training Schools Graduates

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), some of the career choices open to graduates of logistics training schools include:

  • Purchasing managers, buyers and agents
  • Meeting and convention planners
  • Truck transportation and warehousing jobs

Salary Outlook for Logistics Training School Degree Holders

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the career track for purchasing managers, buyers and purchasing agents is expected to grow by seven percent between 2010-2020. Even during the recent recession, logistics training careers continued to grow. Median annual wages for these professions in 2009 were

  • Purchasing Agents: $56,580
  • Purchasing Managers: $95,070

Logistics training may prepare you for a stable, lucrative career. If you have strong organization skills and a head for detail, consider a logistics degree program as it might get your career started.
