Beauty schools may train students in the art and science of cosmetology. Once enrolled, you may study such subjects as hair design and styling, shampoo technology, nail technology, skincare or esthetics (spelled aesthetics in Europe), cosmetics, and permanent cosmetics. In addition to the traditional beauty school and cosmetology school course work, there may also be more advanced programs in cosmetology, such as the CIDESCO Diploma, and more specialized programs, such as laser esthetics.Laser esthetics is an advanced technique where a medical esthetician uses lasers to improve a patient's skin texture and complexion.
Once you receive your beauty school training and become a licensed cosmetologist, you may be ready to begin your career in the beauty industry. Professions in the cosmetology industry include hair designer/stylist, barbering, nail technician (manicurist/pedicurist), esthetician, medical esthetician, shampoo technician, and electrologist.
