Beauty Schools

Beauty schools train students in the art and science of cosmetology. Once enrolled, you will study such subjects as hair design and styling, shampoo technology, nail technology, skincare or esthetics (spelled aesthetics in Europe), cosmetics, and permanent cosmetics. In addition to the traditional beauty school and cosmetology school course work, there are also more advanced programs in cosmetology, such as the CIDESCO Diploma, and more specialized programs, such as laser esthetics. The CIDESCO Diploma is a gold standard in cosmetology training that is recognized in more than 33 countries. Laser esthetics is an advanced technique where a medical esthetician uses lasers to improve a patient's skin texture and complexion.

Once you receive your beauty school training and become a licensed cosmetologist, you will be ready to begin your career in the beauty industry. Professions in the cosmetology industry include hair designer/stylist, barbering, nail technician (manicurist/pedicurist), esthetician, medical esthetician, shampoo technician, and electrologist. There are currently more than 825,000 jobs in the beauty industry and these jobs are expected to grow faster than jobs in the average U.S. industry.
