Surgical Technologist Schools

This page offers career resources including articles and related links; a directory of schools providing quick and easy information about their programs, organized by location; and links to related career categories.

Surgical technologist programs include courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, professional ethics, and medical terminology. Surgical technologists may receive voluntary certification from the Liaison on Certification for Surgical Technologists by passing a national examination after completing their training at a CAAHEP accredited surgical technologies school (check with the each school to sees if it is CAAHEP accredited).

Surgical technologist career opportunities are expected to grow faster than average as the number of surgical procedures grows. Surgical technologists, also known as surgical or operating room technicians (or even scrubs) assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Prior to operations, surgical technologists prepare the operating room by setting up the surgical instruments, surgical equipment, sterile surgical drapes, and sterile solutions. Surgical technologists also assist other surgical team members with putting on their sterile gowns and gloves.
