An Interior design school will train you to shape the way people live and work by creating functional and quality interior environments. As a student at an interior design school, you'll study computer-aided drafting and design, 3D design, space planning, problem solving, and the history of interior design and architecture. Courses may also include topics such as specialty design, including exhibit design, hospitality interior design, retail store interior design and corporate interior design. In addition, you'll learn how to communicate your interior design solutions through a variety of visual media.
Students with interior design degrees are prepared for jobs in interior design fields such as office design, restaurant design, retail space design, hotel design, theatre design, and also hospital layout and design. Interior designing professionals also must be expert at understanding space planning and how to accomplish the functional goals of a space in a visually pleasing manner. Interior design schools help you learn how to keep your client's tastes and budget in mind as you prepare drawings and specifications for interior construction, furnishings, lighting, and fixtures. Interior designers also design architectural details and must design space to conform to local, state, and federal regulations, including building codes and accessibility standards for the disabled and elderly. Interior design school prepares you to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam - which will provide you with industry recognized credentials as an interior designer.
