While receiving your auto mechanic training, you will learn to diagnose, service, and repair both domestic and foreign automobiles. In auto mechanic courses, you will learn basic and advanced auto mechanics, including use of the latest tools. Cars are becoming increasingly computerized, and so are the mechanic's diagnostic tools.
A knowledge of these tools is essential to working on the modern car. In addition, mechanics need to be very good in working with their hands. In an auto mechanic school you will learn about:
- automobile engines
- engine analyzers
- hand-held scanners
- computerized diagnostic equipment
- integrated electronic systems
- complex automotive computers
- fuel injection systems
- exhaust systems
- brakes
- and much more ...
Some auto mechanic schools offer manufacturer specific training for specific auto manufacturers, such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Volvo. Some schools offer manufacturer specialized training, such as the Mercedes Benz Elite, Porsche PTAP and the Volkswagen VATRP programs.
Trained automobile service technicians typically have a knack for getting the most out of a car's engine and other components. The demand for auto mechanic school graduates remains high, as the complexity of engine design grows. The US department of Labor has forecast a very good job outlook for trained mechanics.
