Massage Therapy Careers

According to the National Institute for Health, some one-third of all Americans will suffer from chronic pain at some point in their lives, and approximately 14% of employees take time off work on this account. Massage is one of the array of therapies that are used to manage pain, and is being incorporated into pain management programs in hospitals and health care centers, partly because of its value as a method of pain management that does not involve pharmaceuticals.

As massage therapists are increasingly regarded as health professionals, it is becoming more important to take training and education in the area. There are an increasing number of courses offered by massage therapy schools, leading to a certificate or diploma in massage therapy. There are also a number of institutions that provide accreditation in this area, including the American Massage Therapy Association and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
