The main objective of Platt College is to teach its students skills that are both traditional and contemporary in an environment that promotes new ideas and expands the minds of students. Degree programs at the college can be completed in as little as 15 months. The mission of the College is to identify the natural talents of its students and build those talents into strengths that will serve as personal assets in a career oriented society. This includes encouragement of self-belief, respect for others, and a commitment to a strong work ethic. Platt recognizes that the industries for which they prepare students are ever-changing, so they seek to provide students with a problem-solving foundation that will help students meet future challenges. Platt College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Platt College is located in San Diego, California, a great place to go to school for many reasons. The average year-round temperature is 70 degrees, and, with 70 miles of beaches and mile high mountains, outdoor activities such as snowboarding and surfing are close by. The city has 92 golf courses, many Marinas, the San Diego Zoo, and Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in the U.S. Students can have lunch in Old Town and dinner at the Del Mar Fair Grounds. Or they can visit the renowned Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, travel to nearby Anza Borrego Desert, or spend the day in Tijuana, Mexico just across the border.
The facilities at Platt College include 16,700 square feet of classrooms, computer labs, library, and administrative areas. Core curriculum classrooms have a maximum of 34 students and the general education classrooms have a maximum of 30. While class sizes vary, the average class size is 20 at the associate terms and 20 at the specialized terms. At Platt College, their overarching goal is to ensure their graduates gain employment in their fields of training. In order to meet this goal, the College maintains an active Career Services Department that gathers leads for full or part-time job opportunities in a variety of industries. The Department also helps students with interviewing skills, resume writing, and current job search techniques.
Platt College strives to make admission procedures and requirements simple and easy to understand. Applicants must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and are encouraged to schedule a visit to the campus and an appointment with an admissions representative. Students have the opportunity to tour the campus, visit classrooms, view equipment, and see examples of student work. Each prospective student takes an aptitude test to determine the candidate's academic preparedness.
